Mac Bell's Shot of a Lifetime Was Almost A Golfer's Worst Nightmare
Mac Bell, a long-time member of Grill Marks Clearview Golf Club in Val Caron just wanted to go for a round of golf with a couple of his friends on Monday, June 30, 2008. It wasn't going to be anything special. Just a normal round of golf on a beautiful summer morning. However, it almost turned into his worst nightmare.

After waiting for a while, he decided that they were not going to show up so he took his clubs and went out to play a quick round on his own.

He soon caught up to a group of five players who were ahead of him.

They waited on the fourteenth tee after they shot and told Mac that he could shoot and then go ahead of them.

Mac stood on the tee looking at the target, some 285 yards away.

There was a slight wind blowing from behind, so he took a hefty swing with his driver and hit what he thought was a good shot. The ball was heading straight for the green. Suddenly, one of the players in the group on the tee watching said, "It went in the hole!"

Mac said "No way! It must have rolled past the hole."

As the group of men started walking up the fairway Mac spotted a couple of golf balls on the green. As he and two of the others walked onto the green, Mac went up to each of the golf balls to check to see if it was his. One of the others persons stated, "I told you. It went in the hole. Check the hole."

Mac still didn't believe the man, but after seeing that his ball was nowhere to be found, he decided to look into the cup. And to his astonishment...there was his ball!

It was the second hole-in-one Mac has ever recorded. The first was at the old "Sudbury Highlands" Golf Club. This, however, was on a Par 4, which is indeed unusual. Most are recorded on Par 3's.

While Mac was ecstatic about the hole-in-one, he was also a bit relieved that there were witnesses to his feat. Had he accomplished the hole-in-one while playing along, as he did on all of the other holes, it could have been his worst nightmare. No golfer wants to experience the thrill of a hole-in-one with no witnesses.

Congratulations to Mac Bell. A shot he will always remember.
