PENNY TABLE

FUND-RAISER

Kwik Way / Vision Paper Novice Hockey  Club Is First Sports Group To Take Part In New Fund-Raising Event At The Mall

Zack Yourth, 8-year old member of the Kwik-Way / Vision Paper Novice Team which plays in the Valley East Minor Hockey association, is shown proudly wearing his sweater during the Penny Table Fund-Raiser his team sponsored at the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre in November. Sitting at the table, in the middle, is Sue Tattersol, with her son, Kyle to her left and her daughter, Courtney to her right.

The organization of the Penny Table is relatively straight forward.

The mall provides up to four tables and whatever chairs are needed.

The team, club or organization takes care of the rest.

In order to come up with approximately 40 prizes for the table, individual members are asked to go home and find two or three new items that they can donate to the prize table. These may be gifts that were received over the years for which the family has no use, or items that were purchased in the past which just never were used. Gifts range widely in nature and size. The more variety the better since it attracts more attention from shoppers.

The only other material you need are cans to collect the tickets. The cans must be numbered to match the gift that is set up near the can. Tickets can be purchased at less than $30 for 500 (it is recommended that you have 1500 available).

As for working the table, all you need are two or three people at any given time to record the names and numbers as people purchase the tickets for $1 each. Once a person purchases a sheet of tickets, he/she is free to tear them up and deposit them in the cans that are in front of prizes that are desired.

The group makes the draw to determine the winners at the end of the final day and then phones up the winners to make arrangements to have the prizes picked up.
