Sudbury Earth Day Festival 2006 Information

Sudbury Earth Day Festival 2006

Earth Day is celebrated by all Canadians.  Over six million Canadians recognize Earth Day by participating in events that address challenges to Canada ís environment.

First launched as an environmental awareness event in 1970, Earth Day (April 22) is a widely celebrated international day with more than 500 million people in over 180 countries participating in environmental efforts.

Saturday, April 22, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in downtown Sudbury ís Market Square

The Sudbury Earth Day Festival Committee is comprised of individuals who play an active role in the local environmental community.  It is a group of people that are concerned about the environment and its affect on our health.

Members consist of:

Nathalie Gara-Boivin with Sudbury Basin Environmental Network

Carrie Regenstreif with Junction Creek Restoration

Jennifer Salo with Source Water Protection at Nickel District Conservation Authority

Marie-Claude Roch

Dolores Sirola with Clean Air Sudbury

Shannon Macphee

Janet Charlebois

The Sudbury Earth Day Festival Committee was formed because the group felt there was not enough taking place in the City of Greater Sudbury to raise awareness of current environmental challenges on Earth Day.  Earth Day is one day out of the year where we can commit ourselves to local environmental achievements and initiatives.

The committee wants to empower and encourage the local community to focus on environmental issues and take action by implementing sustainable values and solutions not only on Earth Day but also on an everyday basis.

Why participate:

Not only is it a great opportunity for local businesses and NGOs to generate publicity, business and network but it also inspires others in the City of Greater Sudbury into positive action.
