STUDENTS ACCUMULATE COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS BY HELPING OUT WITH VALLEY EAST SOCCER CLUB REGISTRATIONS

From the front to the back, Jessica Joncas (15), Julie Collin (14), and Michelle Joncas (15), are shown helping keep track of the forms during the 2006 Valley East Soccer Club registrations which were held at the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre. When adults filled out the registration forms, the girls took those papers and placed them inside special containers which will allow organizers to more easily sort out the players in their respective divisions.

Both Michelle (Grade 9) and Jessica (Grade 10) attend Ecole Catholique Secondaire L'Horizon in Val Caron. Julie attends Grade 9 at College Notre Dame in Sudbury.

All secondary school students in Ontario must complete a total of 40 hours of volunteer community service work in order to qualify for their diploma. This is one way for the girls to accumulate those hours.

Jessica has almost completed her required hours and stated that she found it to be a lot of fun getting out in the community to meet new people and try out new experiences.

The Valley East Soccer Club was also glad to have their help as they registered over 500 players in less than nine hours on the first two days of registration.
