Day On The Golf Course Raises 4,000 Smiles For Camp Quality Kids

There’s never a bad reason for enjoying a day of golf, but recently a group of 163 golfers from various Knights of Columbus councils in Northern Ontario used their favourite sport to also generate some happiness for children afflicted with cancer.

The 2nd Annual Knights of Columbus Paul VI Council 7368 Camp Quality Golf Tournament was held at the Clearview Golf Club in Val Caron in September. The event has been organized to by the local Council from St. Kevin’s Parish to raise funds for Camp Quality, a unique camping experience for children with cancer, either active or in remission between the ages of 3 and 18. Camp Quality, which was founded in 1992, provides a week of activity focussing on the best that life has to offer in the healthy, natural setting of the French River area.

The day was perfect for the golf tournament with sunny skies, warm weather and a fantastic fish fry that was put on by the Clearview Golf Club.

Shown in the picture above in front of their impressive sign, are, from the left: Father Larry Rymes (Pastor of St. Kevin’s Parish), Gerry Chartrand (K of C Financial Secretary), the Most Reverand Paul-André Durocher (Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie) and Fern Groulx (K of C Former State Deputy).

All of the Knights had a great time and were extremely impressed with the excellent fairways and greens of the Clearview Golf Course.

When all was said and done, over $4000 was raised for Camp Quality.

The committee and volunteers for this tournament included: Brian Kane, Michael McGuire, Chris Lohan, Bruce Collins, Richard Beaudry, Mike Frawley, John McNeil, Art Dowdall, Emile Lavigne, Clarence Lewis and Raymond Chenard.

Over 50% of the brother knights from Council 7368 Val Caron participated in this charity tournament. The organizers would like to express their appreciation to the Clearview Golf Club for their generous golfing packages to the winners of the longest drive and closest to the hole. The overall winning team was the Levack Council 11565, who scored an impressive 56, for 16 under par and took home a beautiful golf trophy which will be used in future charity golf tournaments.

If anyone wishes to donate to Camp Quality, you are asked to send your donations to Camp Quality Northern Ontario, P.O. Box 23, Monetville, Ontario P0M 2K0. For further information on this worthwhile charity, call  1-800-899-3380.
