The Vision Paper Hosts Special Meet The Candidates Night On Thursday, November 2

A very historic election will take place on Monday, November 13. The first ever council for the City of Greater Sudbury will be chosen. This will mark the beginning of a new era for this region - a time of transition which will present many tremendous challenges for us all. This will be a council which will play a large role in determining the future of this part of the province, so this is a vote which must not be taken lightly!

As a special service to the residents of Valley East, The Vision Paper is organizing a ‘Meet The Candidates Night’ on Thursday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Centennial Arena. It is expected that all nine (9) candidates will be in attendance at this momentous event taking advantage of this excellent opportunity to express their opinions on the major issues and to answer questions presented by the audience.

In order to provide voters with as much information as possible upon which to make the  important decision about who to vote for on November 13, The Vision Paper and Infocom Canada have arranged a special site on the internet at www.thevisionpaper.com/election2000.htm When you visit the main site, click on Elections 2000, and you will find everything you wanted to know about the candidates for Ward 3. Read what they have to say and see if you agree with the direction they are heading. You can even submit questions through the internet site which will then be directed  the candidates if time permits during the course of the evening.

The format of the ‘Meet The Candidates Night’ is yet to be finalized, however, it will include plenty of time for questions from the audience. Candidates will have the usual two to four minutes each to express their positions on the issues and introduce themselves, but after that the assembly will ask the pertinent questions.

The nine candidates running for the two (2) Council positions in Ward 3 include: Nicky Doyon; Ron Dupuis; Maurice Lamoureux; Marc Landry; Joe Niceforo; Louise Portelance; Andre Rivest; Roger Trottier; and Leonard Zivny.

It is unfortunate that only two of these fine people will be elected to represent our Ward, but it is clearly a sign of the interest Valley East has in the elections this time around that we are putting out the largest field of any of the wards. It is hoped that there will be an excellent turn-out at the ‘Meet The Candidates Night’ on November 2 and it is also hoped that we will have a record participation level on November 13 as we all cast our first ballot in the New Millennium.

The staff of the Vision Paper strongly encourages all residents to make a sincere effort to attend this important ‘Candidates Night’.

Visit www.thevisionpaper.com/election2000.htm so that you can become better informed about the candidates. Ask the tough questions and make your choice. It will be a choice you will have to live with for the next three years. And it will be a choice which may affect you for much longer.

See you on November 2.
