Construction of Long-Term Care Facility Set To Begin Before The End of August

The Valley East Long Term Care Centre Inc. launched the construction of the new 128-bed long term care facility with a special sod turning ceremony on August 17, 2001.  The building will be constructed on a 16-acre site at the northeast corner of Main and Frappier in Val Caron. The modern facility is owned by Mr. Alexander Jarlette and Mrs. Erna Baniulis, who bring over 60 years combined experience in the long term care industry. Locally owned and operated Tribury Construction of Sudbury has been awarded the construction contract.

The building will consist of two floors, with spacious accommodation for 128 residents in four home units of 32 residents each, with two home units per floor. Each home unit will include dining, lounge and activity areas, and will be tastefully decorated in a homelike manner to ensure independence and comfort.

The main floor will also include a landscaped courtyard, greenhouse and service areas such as kitchen, laundry and administrative office space. On the second floor, a “rooftop garden” will overlook the landscaped courtyard below. Access to the site will be from the east side of Frappier, with landscaped grounds, gazebo, walking trails and plenty of parking for staff and visitors.

Mr. Dave Holwell, Vice-President, Business Development, is thrilled with the opportunity to provide much needed accommodation and services to the seniors of Valley East and surrounding communities. Mr. Holwell has indicated that the community of Valley East will benefit from the creation of over 100 new jobs, as well as the use of local trades and suppliers during construction. It is expected that the facility will be ready for occupancy in the Fall of 2002. In the meantime, anyone interested in submitting an official name for the new facility may do so by faxing it to Mr. Holwell at (519) 941-1978. You may also call him at (519) 941-9321.
