Ladies Volleyball Tournament In Hanmer on March 10th

Registrations are now being taken for the 1st Annual Ladies Volleyball Tournament being held at St. Anne School in Hanmer on Saturday, March 10, 2001.

Entry fee is only $150 per team for a minimum of four matches during the one-day event. There will be two divisions - Recreation and Competitive. It is expected that approximately 8 to 12 teams will be competing for cash and prizes.

The tournament is a tune-up for the Ladies League playoffs which are scheduled for March and April. 

The tournament is being sponsored by Sudbury Easton Connexion. A share of the proceeds will be donated to the St. Anne School Girls’ Volleyball program.

Sudbury Easton Connexion is the Year 2000 Northern Ontario Men’s ‘B’  Slo-Pitch Champions. The club will be competing at the ‘A’ Level during the 2001 season, playing against similarly ranked teams from Southern Ontario in preparation for a run at the Provincial ‘A’ championships in September. Team members include: Mike McGaughey (Hanmer), Mike Lacasse (Sudbury), Ryan Kirwan (Hanmer), Al Chenier (Sault), Bart Hurley (Sudbury), Warren Kirwan (Val Therese), Joey Dimaio (Sudbury), Roch Lafontaine (Sault), Eric Quenneville (Noelville), Bruno Lafortune (Sudbury), Steve Sabourin (Chelmsford), Al Soucie (Hanmer), Cory ‘Pooch’ Farmer (Val Caron), and Al Blais (Sudbury). The team will be coached this season by Robert Kirwan.

Sudbury Easton Connexion will be competing in several inter-city challenges this summer in an effort to bring some of the best slo-pitch players in the province to Sudbury to provide a chance for local fans to see the game played at its very best.

The Ladies’ Volleyball Tournament is expected to attract some of the best teams in the district to the participate in the competitive division as they go head-to-head for off-season bragging rights.
