Hanmer's Knights of Columbus Council 5005 Summer Fair 2001 Kicks Off With Julian Austin on Friday Night

That’s right! It’s time for the biggest summer festival of the season, this weekend, July 20, 21 and 22, at the Knights of Columbus/Chevaliers de Colomb Council 5005 centre on Emily Street in Hanmer. For the 16th year the Summer Fair will entertain over 10,000 people during the three days.

This is undoubtedly one of the biggest events of the year in Valley East and for those of you who love country music and good, old-fashioned family entertainment, it is an event you won’t want to miss. Roland Mallet, one of the key organizers of the Summer Fair, heads up a team of over 100 volunteers who have devoted countless hours of preparation in order to make this weekend one of the best ever.

Julian Austin is the feature performer on Friday night. He takes to the stage at 10:15. Before and after him fans will be treated to “All Star Country” with tributes to Brooks & Dunn, Reba, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

Saturday night promises to be a night to remember as visitors will delight to the music of Hank Engle & The Hossier Daddies followed by Prairie Oyster and Hotel California from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. On Saturday afternoon, beginning at 1 p.m. Euphoria, Witness and Marc Serre keep the fairgrounds rocking with continuous entertainment from the stage!

New this year is the "BUD BIG RIG". The "BUD BIG RIG" is the Budweiser NFL traveling show that promisses to entertain all with excitement and interaction all weekend. Come see and experience the NFL with such games as "Field Goal Kick" measuring 22 feet long x 20 feet wide x 30 feet high, the Quarter Back Challenge and the challenging Mini Toss.

The action doesn’t stop there! Starting at 11:30 a.m.on Sunday, children can participate in a talent contest followed by a presentation for children by Mark Crocker & Chester from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. At 3 p.m. fans can settle in and enjoy Desert Rain followed by back-to-back performances by the Good Brothers!

Also, by popular demand is a Open Pull Horse Competition beginning at noon Sunday. You will see some of the finest professional horse pull competitors display the awesome power of their fine steeds. Teams of horses are coming in from across the province and from Northern Quebec for this event. A horseshoe tournament has been organized for Saturday and Sunday for those backyard experts who wish to test their skills against other enthusiasts. As well, you will find plenty of things to do with  popular activities such as Airbounce, a wide variety of kids games, and a kids talent show on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You can call Nicole Chartier at 969-5529  for more information on how to register for the talent show and horseshoe tournament.

This promises to be a great weekend of entertainment for the entire family. There are plenty of activities for the children; the parking is free; children under the age of 12 who are accompanied by an adult are admitted free of charge; there is plenty to eat and drink; and the tents will be set up for your comfort and convenience.

The entire weekend can be yours for only $25 if you purchase your ticket in advance at Buddies; Pizza Hut (all locations); Fern’s Shell (Hanmer); Plourde Mini Mart (Hanmer); Moncions Your Independent Grocer; or by calling the K of C Hotline at 969-8895. You can still get your tickets at the gate for $30 for the weekend; Friday only $10; Saturday only $15; or Sunday only $10. Remember, children under 12 are admitted free of charge if accompanied by an adult.
