Fourth Annual Dystonia Walkathon Raises $4,300 For Research Efforts

Click To EnlargeMary Guy, Support Group Leader for the Sudbury Chapter of the International Dystonia Association, couldn’t be more pleased with the tremendous support her association has received from the people of Valley East and Capreol who turn out each year for the Dystonia Walk-and-Wheel event. The 4th Annual Dystonia Walk ‘n Wheel was held on Sunday, June 10 with over 50 participants raising $4300 for research. This brings the total raised in the four years to over $21,000, maintaining the Sudbury Chapter as the leader in the entire province for fund-raising through the Walk ‘n Wheel event.

In the photo above, Mary is shown on the right with assistants, Angele Forest in the middle and Suzanne Leroux on the left.

All of the money raised will be used for dystonia medical research.

Dystonia is a neurological disorder of the muscles for which there is no known cause or cure. The only hope for people afflicted with this disease is that researchers will make a break-through and come up with a way of battling this ailment. And the only way researchers will be able to do this is through the fund-raising efforts of the 110 local Chapters throughout North America.

If you are interested in obtaining further information about the association, you can contact Mary Guy at 673-1101 during the day and 524-0606 in the evening.

Mary wished to extend her gratitude to Shelley Martel for taking part in the walk. Shelley has been a strong supporter of this cause and hasn’t missed a walk in the four years.
