This pond was added in the summer of 2002. Most of my other ponds aren't very deep and it's difficult to keep water plants healthy in them, without the ever green monster, algae, showing it's ugly head. This pond is approximately 5 feet by 7 feet. There is a shelf around the majority of it that's about 12" down from the surface. The centre of the pond is 30 inches deep.

The black, flat rock was gathered from the bush a few miles away and my husband used a crowbar and hammer to break it into smaller, manageable pieces. Many car trips were needed over the years, to supply me with enough rock for the various projects I've developed. My husband still blames me for "killing" our old station wagon, on one last trip for rocks...the axle just couldn't take it I guess.

I made my own filter for this pond by wrapping the pump in filter material and putting it all inside two black water plant planters that were wired together. I add something called Microbe Lift that provides good bacteria to the pond, and had no trouble at all with algae last year. The surface covered with floating plants also helps to ensure no algae.
