The growth of the retail sector in Valley
East has been truly amazing. Larger
corporations do their homework and many have all recognized
the potential of this area of Greater Sudbury. They
realize that a place like Valley East is exactly what people of today are looking
for. People would rather shop in smaller stores where they
know they will receive high quality personal service and attention. They do
not want to battle the crowds and the traffic, but they do
want to receive the benefits of competitive pricing that one
normally finds in larger box stores. Valley East offers shoppers
an ideal solution to their needs. You have a mix of large
national chain stores that are just the right size: not too
big and not too small. This means that you get national
pricing with excellent selection. You also have a wide variety
of boutiques which offer unique styles and choices from which
to choose. Best of all, the time you save from not driving
into the city and from spending time in long line-ups at
larger box stores enables you to enjoy the quality of life
experiences you are seeking as a member of the Town of Valley
East.
The Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre is the 3rd
largest indoor shopping centre in Greater Sudbury. It is also
one of the very first indoor malls ever build in Northern
Ontario. Since it is an indoor facility, this has
become somewhat of a community centre, not only for retail and
professional services, but also for schools, churches,
organizations and groups wishing to increase their profile and raise
funds for their own activities. You can always find something to do at the Hanmer Valley
Shopping Centre.

When it comes to education for your children,
Valley East may very
well be the most
perfectly situated residential area in the whole of
Greater Sudbury. No other community offers you access to
such a variety of choices when it comes to the education of
your children. Besides that, there is bus transportation to a
number of schools in other locations in Sudbury for qualifying
students. This is everything a parent could ask for when it
comes to the future of your children. Quality of life and a
solid education! There are no less than 15 different
elementary and secondary schools in the Town of Valley East
operated by the four school boards.
Getting to post-secondary schools is no problem
when you live in Valley East.. In fact, just a few minutes
from home you will find
the Northern Welding Academy, a private career college
offering training to people wishing to develop a career in the
skilled trades. The Sudbury Transit service is available to
bring students to Laurentian
University, Cambrian
College, and Collège
Boréal, as well as
to any of the other private career colleges and institutions
in the downtown core of Greater Sudbury.
To find out the kind of activities our local
students are involved in, make sure you spend some time
visiting our STUDENT
PAGE where you will be able to see some excellent
photos and stories.
When it comes to your spiritual life,
living in Valley East will provide you with easy, direct access to most churches,
regardless of your affiliation. We know that spiritual
development is very important to the people living in and
around our development and it is one of the reasons
why everyone just loves our location. Valley East contains the
following churches for your spiritual needs. We have even
included the churches located in Capreol which is only 10
minutes north of Valley East.
Besides everything else, perhaps the "icing on the
cake" for most people interested in a home in
Valley East is
the tremendous variety of opportunities that are
available in sports, recreation and leisure.
We are surrounded
by some of the most attractive park land in the entire
region and provide plenty to do for people of all ages
and all interests.
The Valley East Today Consumers' Guide will provide
you with information about as many of the groups and
organizations as we can find so that you can pursue your
own particular interests.
Just consider some of what we have to offer below.
The Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre is one of the
finest complexes you will find in Greater Sudbury. It
has a huge 25 meter indoor pool that has many programs
and dozens of hours of open swim times. You will also
find four squash courts; a full size exercise and weight
training room; a room for aerobics training; an indoor
track with fitness stations; and separate sauna
facilities for men and women. Annual membership rates
are the lowest in Greater Sudbury. Click

The Centennial Arena is a hub of activity all year long.
During the winter months it is the site of most of the
home games for the
Valley East Progressive Hockey Association teams and is booked solid with
hockey and figure skating. The upstairs consists of a large community hall
which is often used for weddings and other large events.
In the summer months, the two softball fields on the property are
buzzing with action five nights a week as teams from the Valley East Mens
and Ladies Slo Pitch Associations compete. Tuesdays and Thursdays it is
the men. Mondays and Wednesdays it is the Ladies. And Sundays it is the
Mixed.
The Ray Plourde Arena,
formerly known as Confederation Arena, is located behind
Confederation Secondary School. It is very active during
the winter months and is the home arena of the Valley
East Consbec 'AAA' Midget Team. This is also where most
of the ringette action takes place. The Valley East
boxing club operates out of the upstairs.
Whether you call it Sandy Beach or Kalmo Beach, it
is one of the jewels of Valley East. Located off Main Street
East, visitors will find this beautiful beach at the end of a
pleasant two minute country drive along a newly paved road way.
Even if you don't swim, it is worth the drive to see the
spectacular view. Click

Valley East is home to one of the four fish hatcheries
in the Greater Sudbury Area. The hatchery is operated by the

The Tailsmen Rod & Gun Club is located just off
Desmarais Road in Val Therese, providing visitors with a chance to do some archery
practice, tour the trout farm, or give your children a
chance to fish in the trout pond beside the clubhouse. Click

The Centennial Park Sports Complex is an all-season
sports facility. During the summer there are two lighted
ball fields that are home to the Valley East Men's Slo-Pitch
League; the Valley East Ladies' Slo-Pitch League; and
the Valley East Mixed Slo-Pitch League. Every night from
Sunday to Thursday you can catch some of the excitement.
The complex also has a small children's playground and
is the other end of the Sudbury Trail Plan Association
Walking Trail that starts at the Howard Armstrong
Recreation Centre. During the winter months you can
toboggan on the sliding hill or catch the hockey,
ringette and figure skating action at the Centennial
Arena. The complex is also the home of the Valley East
Youth Centre. Click

The Valley East Today Consumers' Guide
will do whatever we can to help local residents find
meaningful employment with our businesses and
professional service providers.
We will display links to a variety of the most
popular employment web sites we can find.
If you are a business and you are looking for
qualified employees, please send us your posting and we
will display it on Valley East Today.
This is a special section of the
Valley East Today Consumers' Guide that will be
dedicated to providing residents, business owners,
professional service providers and members of
various organizations and groups in the community
with some important information about some of the
modern trends that are expected to impact on local
economic development.
Some of the links that follow will give you a
better perspective on what is happening in the
world and how these global trends are influencing
the quality of life right here in Valley East. The
internet is definitely going to play a very
important part in the future of our community,
especially in how consumers communicate with local
goods and service providers.
The Internet
Is Changing The Way We Shop
There is no doubt about it. People today have
instant and constant access to the internet and it
is affecting every part of our life. The following
article gives you an idea of some of the trends
that are developing, especially in publishing and
in how consumers approach shopping today. For

Word-of-Mouth
Advertising Is Coming Back
The following article examines some of the
advertising trends to expect in 2011. What I find
particularly interesting is that experts are
finding that today's consumers are responding
better to advertising campaigns that are
"grounded on reality" instead of
taglines and fabricated claims. Consumers are
demonstrating that they trust the recommendations
of their friends more than advertising. This is
why the Valley East Today Consumers' Guide will
rely heavily upon the use of informal video
interviews and business site tours so that local
residents will have a chance to actually
"hear" the owners speak and will be able
to see for themselves what each local business has
to offer. For the full article
